Any man who tries to be good all the time is bound to come to ruin among the great number who are not good. Hence a prince who wants to keep his authority must learn how not to be good, and use that knowledge, or refrain from using it, as necessity requires.
The Prince, Niccolo Machiavelli, 1469 - 1527
If that wasn't enough, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave an anti Israeli speech at the United Nations conference in Geneva on Monday. Iran has also recently sentenced an Iranian American Journalist, Roxana Saberi to eight years in prison for allegedly spying and passing secrets to the CIA. I'm pretty sure that Ms. Saberi, who was born in North Dakota, but has lived in Iran for the past six years doing freelance reporting for National Public Radio and the BBC, is not really a spy. Many insiders believe that the hard-liners in Iran do not want close ties with America, thus are creating a crisis that would make it more difficult for such to take place. Or, they're going to use Ms. Saberi as a bargaining chip to leverage against America during possible negotiations over Iranian Nuclear ambitions.
Either way, both of these incidents have brought into question President Obama's way of dealing with conflict. Many of Obama's detractors have brought up that our President has looked weak. That leaders like Chavez and Ahmadinejad are behaving like Bullies because they take Mr. Obama's kindness for weakness.
To be honest, I do believe Mr. Obama's detractors may have a point. Certain human beings get a kick out of being aggressive and getting what they want, when they want it. They don't care about you or me and will push anyone around as long as they can. Bullies will bully until they run into someone stronger who isn't going to take it. Usually, Bullies avoid someone who is stronger or who is their equal. They tend to fight with someone who they know won't fight back or they're just plain stronger than the victim.
The fact that Iran seems to be giving America the middle finger along with our president being a democrat, the name Jimmy Carter has surfaced. Many people compare former president Carter's inability to fight back as similar to President Obama.
That is certainly one way to look it. Another possibility is president Obama's leadership style could be similar to Halie Selassie. Many of Mr. Selassie's (Ethiopian leader from 1930-1974) rivals could not understand how this quiet, mild mannered man rose to become a leader. He never got angry or emotional, he would smile in his enemies face, making them feel more powerful before he attacked. Mr. Selassie would use bullies aggression against them, he would appear weaker than he really was and then lure them in with a trap. By the time his victims realized what was going on, it would be too late.
Only time will tell what Mr. Obama's leadership style really is and whether its effective or not. For President Obama's sake, I hope his style resembles Mr. Selassie more than Mr. Carter.
How do you view President Obama's leadership style? Do you think he's being bullied by world leaders? Does this show America has a stereotyped view of Manhood or is this just reality? Let me know.

Truth,
I'm really trying to figure out what the Chavez-Obama controversy is about? Is there a controversy?
As far as Ahmadinejad is concerned, what is he doing differently? A journalist got arrested, that's not shocking, these tactics have been used before.
I really can't guage his leadership style off by his meeting with Chavez, nor Ahmadinejad's actions.
Bullied? I think this is all about perception and some one or group is trying to paint a picture or influence the public's perception. Chavez gave Obama a book. Maybe he is aware of the fact that Obama is an avid reader.
In the end, I think we all remember a leader that appeared tough just to be tough, but really didn't have a clue, nor cared for diplomacy.
---- Note:
Check out how these events are covered by other media outlets like the BBC, Slate or even AlJazeera. Also take note of the news items that they do report that major American media outlets, the AP, MSNBC, Fox News, NYTimes, etc. will not cover.
Truth be told I don't think many people understand a poker face. It's hard to guage a man who thinks first. So since his face doesn't turn beet red they wonder if he is mad. Since he'd rather start off with a handshake and a smile people think he's naive.
The way others view power is not his style. To me I think he is doing what he said we come in peace with a chance to start anew but if not we already have the guns pointed towards you anyway. The only difference is he is leaving it up to them to decide how to proceed.
People who don't understand negotiations think you should go in there and scream while those who seek solutions determine what the other side wants and then acts. 90 days into a term and they already are labeling him a coward. No matter what he does if he's too strong he's out of control if he's too quiet he's naive.
I guess it's better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and prove it.
It's seldom I come to a blog and see so much agreement. Well, when I do see differences one side is standing on very weak and unstable ground. The other is stating facts.
I don't know the persons that thinks he appears weak. I DO know some republican War devils wish to paint him as such (who owns the weapons companies and those that are making money off of the rebuilding of Iraq). They are accustom to Bush and his boys running around talking about nothing and they too, acting like bullies. That administration didn't want to engage in constructive talks.
I agree with the other postee ...so what? He gave him a book?!? Lets be fair, the USA has not been kind to many other countries ...okay!
If we are talking about keeping it real we've been the biggest bullies on the block.
If one only heard Mike Tyson's voice, they could take him for a chump, but we all know about Mike.
Talking tough and letting your emotions rule you is not the name of the game.
Obama knows he has the best card, in spite of the talking heads that wish to bring him down.
This is really a no-brainer. Well, except if we are looking through the eyes of ...you know.
AND OTHER BULLIES!
Btw, he did say he looked at the book.
I agree with everyone here. Real G's move in silence. I have always disagreed with the statement 'keep your friends close but your enemies
closer'. To me that is backwards. It is your friends you have to worry about. You already know what your enemies will do. It is your friends who are always BEHIND you talking about, 'Don't worry Dog, I got your back.' Your enemies are always in front of you. You can see what they are doing. It those people behind you that you need to be wary of. I think Obama is doing alright. You never tell a man that you are going to bitch slap him because then he has time to block your slap. You always act like everything is all good so you can get in close and then you lay the smack down. You never ever let a potential enemy know that you know he is an enemy, until you are ready to let him know that you know that he is an enemy. And by then it is too late. Your enemy is a memory.
Vee,
Thanks for your comment!
I don't view Obama as weak, he just does not make decisions based off emotion. Which in my mind, is the accurate stance to take. To make moves when your angry or upset usually leads to disaster.
Fox news wants to portray him as weak, that's where I got the idea for this post. Needless to say, I disagree with just about everything that station does.
I check out many different news agencies websites, but Fox generally annoys me the most!

Well, said brother, I agree totally.
You get more bees with honey than vinegar! Fox news and the right don't get that philosophy!

I agree with you totally, Obama does not let emotion guide his decisions, which is the way it should be.
Its better to be wise and outsmart your enemy, instead of beating your chest and acting like thirteen year old boy.

Dirty Red,
Thanks Dirty Red for the comment!
I think we all agree to play the tough guy role and not think your moves through ahead time, is not the way to go. George Bush would probably vouch for that statement!
Peace
